This book is the result of a perceived need for an updated work on the general principles of law in Hong Kong intended for use by non-law students and professionals, and the general public. While there are publications on specific legal fields, no recent book includes several core legal subjects presented in a general manner.
The survey of the more common legal principles that apply in Hong Kong — contract, tort, employment, property, and conveyancing — should assist the reader in understanding and anticipating legal issues that might arise in business or daily situations. Thus, the book is especially suitable for students and professionals in accounting, arbitration, architecture, building or property management, construction, engineering, insurance, shipping, social work, and surveying.
Stephen D. Mau was formerly an assistant professor of law at the City University of Hong Kong; he taught and published journal articles and books on international arbitration, contract, tort, employment, and property. Presently he is a consultant advising the building and construction industry on matters relating to contract, construction, and dispute resolution. He continues to be involved in the provision of educational services for the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, the City University of Hong Kong, and the Hong Kong Institute of Arbitrators.
