His research interests include late imperial Russian social and labour history,Vietnam, and Russian relations with Hong Kong, Taiwan and MacaoThis volume contains two latest plays by Gao Xingjian, The Man Who Questions Death and Escape. Induced by the author"s personal trauma in Europe and Mao"s China, the two playsare scrutiny of the psychology of self-proclaimed heroes, who may incite unthinking crowd behavior and far-reaching revolution that turns literature and art into the hostages of politics, fashions, and trends. An introduction by Mabel Lee is included.
