This volume is a collection of selected papers presented at a conference in 1986, by ethnic Chinese geographers focusing on the most pressing issues in geography and development in the present day world, as reflected in the title. Papers are grouped under three themes: Resources Exploitation and Utilization; Environmental Constraints and Management; Regional and Urban Development. Contributors are from institutions in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and the U.S.A.
