The conference proceedings aims to define the issues and provide impetus for further research on territorial claims in the South China Sea. The papers published here include works by academics from the U.K., U.S., Canada, Taiwan, Australia, Singapore, Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, Brunei, Indonesia and Hong Kong. While no perfect solution for the competing claims is concluded, the works in this volume highlight the lack of interest of some of the concerned parties to negotiate a settlement, and the volatility of the situation that conceivably can escalate into a larger conflict.
