Glutathione s-transferases (GSTs) constitute the most important enzymes protecting human and many other organisms from potentially toxic chemicals, including drugs and carcinogenic chemicals. This book reviews recent scientific developments in research of this enzyme system.; The text also covers the structure of GSTs, together with their role not only in susceptibility to cancer but also in cancer prevention. It is divided into sections covering enzymology, structure and function of GSTs, control and regulation of GST-expression, GSH conjugation "in vivo", and the clinical relevance of GSTs.
