Some people may study English because they have to, for example because of school or work, while others may do so due to personal interest. Whichever the case, in order to study English efficiently, the right methods and proper motivation are a must. When I was young, I studied English in order to pass tests, never realizing the fun involved or the necessity of understanding English. Even though my grades were outstanding, and I picked up a lot of vocabulary along the way, a foreigner looking for directions would be better off asking a tree than asking me! Since then, my attitude has changed dramatically and I want to share the joy of learning English with you.
This book focuses on the many uses of verbs, both in everyday conversations and also in more formal situations such as discussions, meetings and conferences. For those whose native language is Chinese such as myself, you may come across words that mean similar things, but are used completely differently. For example, while predict, forecast, foresee, expect, are four words which have similar meanings, forecast is usually related to explaining weather, while foresee is more often used in the context of fortune telling.
When you begin to understand the difference between the subtle differences in the use of these verbs, your English will have unknowingly improved beyond your expectations. In turn, you will be more able than ever before, to express yourself with greater depth and accuracy.
