The book which is now available in Chinese Language is based on a lecture course I delivered at Harvard University in the Spring-term of 1973 - my first semester at this university and the first course of this kind since many decades. I am told that it was effective in changing the American perception of the classical German tradition and that it contributed to the origination of the recent wave in Anglosaxon philosophical literature which associates itself with this tradition.
I am grateful to the translator and the publisher for making the course available within the Chinese civilisation which I admire and which, I am sure, can contribute to the survival of this tradition within the thought of mankind.
