Building from the achievements of a collaborative project begun in 2011—a project sponsored by the Top University Office of National Cheng Kung University, faculty members at the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature have collected the results of our exploration of the ways in which literature and literary analysis operate across and inside borders. These borders can be geographical, generic, temporal, political, theological, or cultural and crossing them can lead to transgression or definition. The exchange and transfer between old and new forms, thoughts, ideologies and imaginations intensify as borders shift and converge.

The nine articles collected in this book follow a theoretical model that examines the modes by which the discourse of modernity informs the imagination of the border and employ a methodology that frames the relation between literature and cultural practice.? As a whole the book examines the emerging paradigms surrounding the movements across borders.
