作者序
This book is intended to help you to understand what is required of you as a candidate in the writing section of the IELTS test. The book covers the various types of tasks you are likely to encounter in the test.
The IELTS test can be challenging, especially for students who have limited experience of academic writing. However, I hope that this book can enable you to ultimately be successful in your studies.
Before you start this book, I would like to point out the following.
First of all, the examples in this book are not the only way to write. Different writers (and teachers!) may come up with different ideas and a variety of different structures. The examples are intended to give you a model on which to base your own writing and to develop your own personal style.
Secondly, the IELTS writing test is testing your skill as a writer, not your memorisation skills. Do not try to memorise the examples exactly, but instead, use them as inspiration for your own essays and descriptions.
Finally, remember that the IELTS writing test is designed to help you to improve the skills you will need to work or study overseas. Unfortunately, there are no short cuts, or special tricks to “crack” the test. The best way to achieve your goal is to become a better writer, so practise as much as possible and make sure that you get feedback from an expert to help you to improve.
I hope that you find this book useful in developing your writing ability, and wish you every success in your test!
