香港雖然是彈丸之地，但此城市其實擁有繁多的蜻蜓品種。自1854年的第一個蜻蜓記錄開始，香港如今已記錄了111種蜻蜓，當中更有三種蜻蜓是香港特有的。「香港蜻蜓圖鑑」一書便是為這111種蜻蜓，提供了綜合性的成蟲檢索表，以及對這些品種的主要形態特徵、生境喜好、最新的分布資料及在本地的稀有程度作出詳實的描述。本書更刊登了超過300張精美的圖片，以中英文字，圖文並茂，為生態學家及所有對這些細碎繽紛的「有翅實石」有興趣的人仕，開啟香港蜻蜓的認知之門。
Although known for its skyscrapers, Hong Kong is also home for a rich variety of dragonflies. Since the first local record was made in 1854, a total number of 111 dragonfly species, including 3 endemic species, have now been recorded from Hong Kong. Written for interested amateurs as well as more experienced professionals, "Field Guide to the Dragonflies of Hong Kong" opens the door to understanding and identifying these 111 dragonfly species. It provides descriptions of distinctive features, a comprehensive key of adults, information on habitat preferences, update distributional data and local status of the species. 前市政局在1995年出版了第一本有關香港蜻蜓的書籍，當中記錄了102個品種。作者於1997年在Memoirs of the Hong Kong Natural History Society中發表的香港蜻蜓註解名冊裏，多加了5個品種。其後，漁農自然護理署於2001至2003年其間進行了大量的野外考察，取得有關香港蜻蜓分布的新資料。本書提供了最新的分布數據和4個新發現品種的資料。現在，香港可以找到111種蜻蜓。
