These trilingual readings are selected poems from the “Airs of the States” of the Shi Jing, translated by Fu-Shiang Chia. The “Airs of the States” is the oldest extant collection of lyric poetry in the world; some of the poems date as far back as three thousand years. Chia’s translation from Classical Chinese to Modern Chinese and English is the first, complete trilingual collection ever published. Being the fountainhead of world poetry, the “Airs of the States” is a perfect vehicle for teaching English or Chinese as a Second Language.
解說
這二十六篇，三語（原文，白話，英文）朗讀，是選自我的譯書《詩經?國風中文白話新譯》（2008年台北市書林出版社發行），製作這片光碟的目的，是希望對外語教學（中國教英文，外國教中文）的師生有所幫助。中文朗讀者，是張麗娜和葛天培，張是畫家，也善於寫作，葛是資深廣播員，兩人都是台灣來的移民，現定居在溫哥華。英文朗讀者是Susheela Dawne, Sharron Chia和Stephen Arnold。Susheela是加拿大有名的歌手，Stephen Arnold是亞柏特大學比較文學系的榮休教授，曾在大學教近代詩三十年，Sharron Simonds先在華盛頓大學政治系畢業，後又在加拿大亞柏特大學藝術系進修，現在是專業畫家。這五個人都是以母語朗讀，發音正確、清楚，又能各自表達詩意內容。
國風一百六十篇，挑選了二十六篇，是經過漫長的討論和思考。2009年十一月，當我計劃製作光碟的時候，我自己選了四十篇，又請李學知和Mr. Arnold各選四十篇，選詩的標準是，品質、內容、諸侯國的分配、和男女聲音的適合度。三人所選出的一百二十篇中，只有二十篇全被三人選重，如此，Stephen和我經過數次商討，再選了十首，另外我又請五位朋友，各選一篇，這樣就湊成了三十五篇。
2010年三月，初次錄音的結果，用了105分鐘，所以還要減少30分鐘（CD只有80分鐘），幾經思考，又取去了八篇（橋（賈福相著）、定之方中、蘀兮、無衣、考槃、裹裳、衡門、鳲鳩），也減去了導言部分，如此，時間用去了79分鐘11秒。
值得一提的是，〈狼跋〉一篇，無人選中，只為了「有始（關睢）有終（狼跋）」的吉利，也被納入CD。另一個小小的意外是，鄭風中選了四篇，而鄭風是孔子所討厭的，他說：鄭風淫，妄人殆。

These trilingual poetry readings were selected by Stephen Arnold, F. S. Chia and H. C. Lee from the “Airs of the States” of the Shi Jing, translated by Fu-Shiang Chia, foreword by Stephen Arnold. Arnold and Chia are Professors Emeritus at the University of Alberta. After a term as Chairman of Zoology, Professor Chia was the Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research for ten years. Arnold, formerly the Chairman of Comparative Literature and Film Studies, taught modern poetry from several language traditions for thirty years, Ms. Lee is an entrepreneur.
The “Airs of the States” is the oldest extant collection of lyric poetry in the world, some of the poems dating as far back as three thousand years. Chia’s translated book was published in 2008 by Bookman Books Ltd. of Taipei, and in 2010 by Beijing University Press. Professor Chia’s translation from Classical Chinese to Modern Chinese and English is the first, complete trilingual collection of the “Airs of the States” ever to be published. Being the fountainhead of world poetry, the “Airs of the States” is a perfect vehicle for teaching English or Chinese as a Second Language.
The poems are read in Chinese by Lina Chang (an artist and writer), and Tin-Pei Ko (a senior broadcaster), and in English by Susheela Dawne (a well known singer), Sharon Chia (an artist) and Stephen Arnold.

作者簡介
賈福相
筆名莊稼，一九三一年生於山東省壽光縣賈家莊。台灣師範大學生物系畢業，美國西雅圖華盛頓大學碩士、博士。曾任加州三可門脫大學助教授（1964-1966），英國新堡大學及達夫海洋研究所高級研究員（1966-1969），加拿大亞伯達大學助教授、副教授、正教授（並曾兼任動物系系主任五年，研究生院院長九年，1969-1993），香港科技大學教授（1993-1996），台北海洋館館長（1996-1999）。
一九九七年教職退休後定居加拿大，每天散步、讀詩、寫文章，也為幾所大學作些義工。曾被列入五種世界名人錄。指導碩士生十五人，博士生十八人，博士後二十二人。曾發表海洋生物論文兩百零三篇，編著參考書四本，著有《獨飲也風流》、《吹在風裡》、《看海的人》、《星移幾度》等散文集，譯有《詩經國風：英文白話新譯》。
