“Mandarin Charms 101” was written in 1993, and used for more than 15 years at Taipei American School. It consisted of scores of Chinese language learning activities that had been thoroughly tested in the classroom, and was suitable for both heritage and foreign students of the language.
When I used this book during those years, and when students were involved in game activities, they had fun and tended to forget that they were in a classroom learning situation. Being a language teacher, that was so rewarding.
Mandarin teacher Hetty Hsiao found “101 Chinese Games” useful and contacted the publisher. She added her own creative ideas to the book, which maximized its use for teachers.
Others who assisted me in this publication were John Dankowski, Cathy Wu, and Kathy Fischmann and most important were TAS students who inspired me to produce this revision.
