George Frideric HANDEL, born (1685) in Halle Germany, died (1759) in London England. A German-born composer and organist (naturalized British citizen in 1726). Handel was born the same year as J.S. Bach. Both are considered the greatest composers of Baroque music. Handel’s instrumental compositions (such as sonatas, concerti grossi) were the most highly acclaimed of his work. However, it is in his operas and oratorios that the nobility, expressiveness, creativities, and captivation are appreciated the most.
The ”Sonata Op.1 No.3” was originally composed for violin and basso continuo, now transcribed into an alto saxophone and piano piece by saxophonist Cheng-yu LEE.
